Back in July this year, I entered the NZIPP NIKON IRIS PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS and was so excited to be awarded one gold and two bronzes. I entered the 2018 NZIPP IRIS PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS for the first time and thought I would see how I go…. Ive always had an interest in these awards but never been brave enough to enter, and this year I took the jump and I'm so glad I did. I was absolutely stoked to be awarded a Gold on my first image to be judged. I remember streaming the judging live as I wasn't able to be in Wellington to watch it in person, and my heart was in my throat. There was so much excitement yet so many butterflies streaming through my body. GOLD!! I was so excited and also extremely proud. Proud to hear that one of my images scored over 90% out of 100. To hold Award Winning Photographs in such an achievement!
WHAT IS THE NZIPP IRIS PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS?
The 2018 Iris Professional Photography Awards are organised by the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography (NZIPP) and supported by major sponsor NIKON. These annual awards, open to all New Zealand and International professional photographers, have been running for 35 years. The Awards celebrate the innovation and excellence of professional photography today, providing a platform for recognition within the wider photographic community and with the general public.
Professional photographers from New Zealand and all over the world compete in a number of categories, and for the coveted title of “Professional Photographer of the Year”. The photographer with the highest score form their award winning photographs in each category will be crowned the best of the best.
Entries in the Iris Awards are judged in an open (public) forum over a three-day period by panels of the respected national and international judges. The best images are awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze awards. The judging process is an educational, informative and inspirational event with all entrants, professional photographers and the general public are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
There were so many amazingly beautiful entries from all genres across the country and the live streaming of awards were being watched in quite a few countries! I felt a little out of my league but receiving a Gold Award and two Bronze Awards for my four prints was a proud moment!! My entries were in the family category, it’s such an honour to be recognised on a national stage!
